It costs much less, there is far less time taken up with the planning process, and installation takes a fraction of the time. Having a separate office also provides a neat division between home and work life, whilst providing you with a ‘professional’ environment free of children’s toys in the hallway for example. It just feels wrong and slightly embarrassing to drag a client through your house to a meeting in an upstairs bedroom – and of course it means you have one less bedroom to use for guests or family. Even if you use the dining room, there’s all the problems associated with tidying up all the paperwork, computer and other peripheral equipment when a meal is planned in that room.

In addition, if you’ve been used to a long commute, then you’ll find that there’s nothing nicer than a short stroll across the garden to work. Having a separate, designated office space is an ideal choice for those able to work from home.

The Concept

You will receive a really substantial, well built timber home office - with full mains services, installed on your own property. These home office granny annexes can be modified to your exact requirements and have a whole range of options to suit almost every need. For those of you who have not seen a modern home office lodge, you will be amazed that they come fully fitted out with electrical wiring and plumbing. If they are also to be used as a home, they’ll come complete with luxury kitchen and bathroom.

We can also recommend a complete furnishing package, sourced from specialist companies. Normally supplied with two or three bedrooms, our office lodges can be configured as you wish, with one large office and a storeroom, or several smaller offices – the choice is yours.

A local doctor purchased a home office granny annexe and uses the ‘living room’ as his reception / waiting room, the ‘master bedroom’ as his consulting room and the smaller ‘bedroom’ as his study.

If you wish, the kitchen can be retained and provides cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. You’ll also have the benefit of a bathroom with toilet and bath/shower. The outside can have an attractive verandah with either steps or wheelchair ramp for easy access.

Case History: Mark, 57

For many years I ran a graphic design studio in a large town. It would take an hour to drive in and longer to get home, in very busy traffic. And whatever the time, the roads were always congested. The rent got higher each year and when my wife saw a Joal Leisure home office lodge that a friend had installed in their garden, she was sold immediately.

I’m as pleased as punch. After breakfast, I bring a coffee over and wait for the post to arrive. I can just nip back to the house for lunch and then work through till 5pm. Clients love to come here for meetings as there are no traffic jams and no parking problems. I wish I had bought one years ago!
